Welcome to Esa Lilja's guitar distortion listening test!
This is a listening test for investigating the perception of heavy metal harmony.
The test consists of 3 parts: a musical background questionnaire and the 2 part listening test.
By participating in this test you give the researcher (Esa Lilja) permission to use
your answers in his research. The answers are handled anonymously.
The Instructions
The test consists of 12 draggable sampleboxes that play audio when the mouse pointer (or touch) is hovered on top of the bottom part. From the top part you can drag the samplebox and place it back in the line.
Your task is to place the sampleboxes in order from left to right based on how consonant you consider the samples you hear.
As the leftmost you should place the samplebox that you consider the most consonant
(the one in which you think the tones fit together the best), and as the rightmost you should
place the sample you consider the least consonant (the tones fit together the worst of all the sampleboxes).
The sampleboxes have letters only for your own mental bookkeeping and they don't provide any hint about ordering.
Below is an example of a samplebox. Before starting the actual experiment, mouse over (or touch) the samplebox bottom section and adjust your volume to a comfortable level. It is best to do the test in a quiet environment using headphones.
